Happy New Year! I’m back with my first newsletter of 2021, and wanted to let you know first and foremost how grateful I am to all of my readers, for keeping the DI Geraldine Steel series going. Let’s hope that this year is much better than the last…
Here it is! The 15th Geraldine Steel!
The 15th title, Evil Impulse, is out this month. The following book is due out this summer (Deep Cover), and I recently signed a contract for books GS17 to GS20 with my brilliant publisher, No Exit Press, winner of the Crime Writers Association Best Crime and Mystery Publisher Award 2019.
Perhaps what has surprised me most of all is that the thrill of writing about Geraldine and Ian never palls for me. The challenge and enjoyment is the same now as when I first started writing, about twelve years ago.
What’s more, I can confide that there’s an unexpected victim of a criminal gang in EVIL IMPULSE. You will have to read the book to find out what happens. All I can do here is share with you a brief extract from the book, just to whet your appetite…
Geraldine walked to the underground car park where she kept her car overnight. She reached a bend in the stairs that led beneath her block of flats when, without warning, a hood was flung over her head, her bag was snatched from her shoulder, and her hands were pulled behind her back. The smell of stale cigarette smoke inside the hood made her retch. It flashed across her mind that whoever was assaulting her knew the exact spot on the stairs where there were no CCTV cameras. Endeavouring to control her panic, she yelled and tried to kick out, and nearly lost her footing. Her alarm increased when she felt her phone being taken from her pocket. Struggling and shrieking inside her muffled hood, she felt herself lifted bodily off her feet, carried rapidly down the last few steps and shoved onto a hard surface, hitting her shoulder and hip as she fell.
